Guyana has dominated the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)/TravelMole Sustainable Tourism Awards. For the second consecutive year, Guyana bagged three of the six honors at the STC-14 awards ceremony last week.

Caribbean Leaders Urged to Put Tourism on the Front Burner

Dr. Rufus Ewing, Premier of the Turks and Caicos, has echoed a call by T&T’s Tourism Minister Stephen Cadiz for regional leaders to put tourism high on the agenda. Premier Dr. Ewing, speaking at the final press briefing on the last day of the 14th Annual Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC-14) at the Hyatt Regency, said “tourism has to be led in front by leaders.”

T&T to Launch Global Marketing Initiative at WTM London

The Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Tourism will be launching a global marketing initiative at the World Travel Market World (WTM), the leading global event for the travel industry, scheduled to take place in London from November 4-7, 2013. Tourism Minister Stephen Cadiz made the announcement at STC-14.

UNWTO Director Urges T&T to Take Leadership Role in Regional Tourism

Trinidad and Tobago can take a leadership role in helping to boost the tourism industry in the Caribbean. Carlos Vogeler, Regional Director for the Americas, United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) said Trinidad and Tobago could be instrumental in helping to market the Caribbean as a multi-destination package and also to take the lead in uniting the Caribbean around issues of airlift and taxation.

Colombia’s Foreign Relations Minister, Her Excellency Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar has agreed to convene a meeting of airlines with Trinidad and Tobago in May to examine the prospects of enhancing airlinks in the wider Caribbean and South America. The announcement was made by Acting Prime Minister Winston Dookeran during his feature address at the opening of the Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC-14) at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain.
