MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys have partnered with MSC’s container shipping division to use smart containers for fresher food delivery.

These containers are equipped with internet-connected devices that monitor data such as temperature and humidity in real-time, ensuring optimal conditions for refrigerated and frozen products like meat, seafood, and dairy.

Monitored 24/7 from a centralized Customer Service Center in Antwerp, Belgium, these smart containers allow for immediate problem resolution during transit, reducing the risk of spoiled goods. The initiative has already shown improved quality assurance, with MSC Cruises using these containers to supply their 22-ship fleet.

The vast scale of MSC Cruises' food delivery includes supplying millions of eggs, liters of milk, and thousands of kilograms of fresh produce annually. Paolo Raia, Managing Director of MSC Procurement & Logistics, highlighted the benefits of smart containers, especially in regions with limited local production, like the Middle East. The ability to adjust environmental parameters during transit ensures the freshest food is delivered to guests.
