On the second day of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, CHTA president Nicole Madden-Greig presented the association's objectives for the post-pandemic period, claiming the "potential of the Caribbean to surpass the figures of 2019 in this past year."

As she did yesterday at the Caribbean Travel Forum, the President reviewed the figures that attest to the impressive recovery of the Caribbean tourism sector, one of the fastest in the world.  One of those data was the job creation last year, which was 311,000 jobs in the region, 15.2% more than in 2020, and of which 13.4% corresponded to the tourism sector.
In addition, he gave the example of Barbados to highlight the importance of having left behind health restrictions, since the country, once it had removed all those restrictions in September this year, again exceeded the number of tourist arrivals compared to the 2019 data.

In fact, only four countries in the Caribbean region keep restrictions on passengers entering the country.
However, Nicole Madden-Greig focused on the "sustainable growth of the Caribbean", despite the fact that Latin America, for example, has not recovered as quickly in terms of tourism.

Another of the aspects she underlined as important was the leadership of the premium class of aircraft in this recovery, which also shows the great attraction of Caribbean tourism for the business sector.

Once again, he re-emphasized the importance of air connectivity among Caribbean countries, proposing ideas such as the introduction of dynamic taxes to encourage demand, in the same way that hotels and airlines do with the prices they set.

As has been a constant throughout this 40th edition of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, sustainability is a key aspect to continue developing the industry and to be able to see the benefits of the sector in the local population, because, as the president explained, "this is not just about making money.

The CHTA general manager and Acting CEO Vanessa Ledesma closed the presentation by underlining the large presence of companies and institutions at the fair (125 companies representing 23 markets), as well as pointing out the "great opportunity that this event represents for all the member destinations represented at the Congress".
