The 2024 edition of the Tianguis Turístico in Acapulco kicked off today, just five months after the devastation caused by the powerful hurricane "Otis" on the coasts of Guerrero.

The inaugural event, which was attended by governors, tourism authorities, representatives of the hotel sector, the private sector, travel agencies, tour operators and invited countries, was marked by a welcome message from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In her opening speech, Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda recalled the difficulties they faced after the passage of Hurricane "Otis" in October 2023, but emphasized that Acapulco is on its feet and ready to receive both national and international tourists.

"From difficulties, we have been reborn. Acapulco rises from the ashes while maintaining its essence. With the joint effort of the community and the various sectors, we stand firm. Today, Acapulco resurges while maintaining its charm," said Governor Evelyn Cesia Salgado Pineda.

On the other hand, President López Obrador, through a pre-recorded message, expressed his support to Acapulco's tourism and hotel community, highlighting the crucial role of hoteliers in the recovery. He also assured that he will visit the destination before the end of his term and thanked South Korea and China for their help in donating household goods.

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, underscored the historical importance of the Tianguis Turístico as a platform to promote Mexico's tourism destinations and products. In this inclusive edition, the aim is to promote the labor insertion of people with disabilities, ensuring that no one is excluded.

"We have worked hand in hand with the government, the private sector and society as a whole to achieve in a short time the rebirth of our beloved Acapulco, but above all thanks to the strength of its people," said Torruco Marqués in his opening speech.

With the active participation of more than 900 tourism companies, this edition of the Tianguis Turístico has highlighted Mexico's cultural, natural and gastronomic diversity. The event has brought together representatives from the country's 32 states and has served as a vital space for promotion and commercial exchange in the tourism industry, with the presence of companies from all continents.
