2012 Reaping Big Benefits for Jamaica’s Travel Industry

This year is turning out to be a 'hugely important' one for Jamaica, according to the local tourism agency. Elizabeth Fox, UK and northern Europe regional director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, pointed out that the country marked 50 years of independence in 2012.

It also enjoyed the success of Jamaica House at the O2 in London, which allowed sports fans to be part of the nation's Olympic victories and celebrate the achievements of athletes like Usain Bolt.

Ms Fox was speaking after the Caribbean island received a nomination in the Favourite Worldwide Destination category in the British Travel Awards Check In Magazine Readers' Choice Awards.

'It would be an enormous privilege for Jamaica to go on to win this highly popular award and we hope that fans of Jamaica will vote for us,' she commented. Following a consumer voting stage, the winners will be announced at the British Travel Awards ceremony in London on 1 November.
