Air Berlin Posts Double-Digit Growth

In October 2006, Air Berlin PLC once again achieved double-digit growth. The German low-cost carrier flew 13.8 percent more passengers as compared to the same month of the previous year.

For October 2005, this figure amounted to 1,369,307 passengers in comparison with 1,558,885 in October 2006. In cumulative terms, for the period between January and October 2006, this accounts for a 13.4 percent increase to a total of 13,306,087 passengers.

This means that Air Berlin has almost reached the result of 2005 of more than 13.5 million passengers after the first ten months in 2006. Due to the capacity increase, the utilization rate of Air Berlin’s planes in October 2006 peaked 83.20 percent, slightly below that of the corresponding month of the previous year.

All in all, the capacity utilization rate fort he first ten months of 2006 ramped up by 1.5 percentage points, from 79.47 to 80.9 percent.

The airports showing the strongest growth for Air Berlin during the month of October were Frankfurt (32 percent), Hanover (24.5 percent), Nuremberg (23.5 percent), Paderborn-Lippstadt (16 percent) and Düsseldorf (15.4 percent).
