The departure in late December of Air Canada flight AC 1896 marked the launch of the only nonstop, scheduled flights from Alberta’s capital city to Punta Cana, one of the most popular leisure destinations in the Dominican Republic. This seasonal service will operate every Thursday until April 19.

“We are delighted to launch our nonstop flights from Edmonton to Punta Cana, our second sun holiday destination from Alberta’s capital city, following our launch of nonstop flights from Edmonton to Cancun,” said Daniel Shurz, Vice President Network Planning for Air Canada.

Air Canada flight AC 1896 departs Edmonton at 08:00 arriving in Punta Cana at 17:40. Air Canada flight AC 1897 departs Punta Cana at 18:55, arriving back into Edmonton at 23:30. All flights are operated onboard the 207-seat Boeing 767, offering a choice of Executive Class or Economy service.

From Edmonton, Air Canada and Jazz offer up to 51 daily flights to 18 destinations in North America, as well as the Caribbean and London Heathrow. During 2006, Air Canada and Jazz launched nine new nonstop routes from Edmonton to Montreal, Los Angeles, Yellowknife, Victoria, Las Vegas, London, Cancun, and now Punta Cana.
