As the holiday season approaches, Air Jamaica is offering passengers one of the most generous baggage guidelines in the industry. Passengers need not worry about paying extra for as many as two pieces of checked baggage when traveling in Lovebird Economy Class, and up to three pieces of checked baggage when flying Lovebird Executive Class.

“We understand that passengers travel with additional items during the holiday season and want to make travel cost-efficient by continuing to allow free checked baggage,” said George deMercado, Air Jamaica’s senior director of sales. “Free checked baggage is another example of our Lovebird Hospitality making travel easier and more enjoyable.”

All passengers are allowed one piece of carry-on baggage with a maximum weight of 30 pounds and a maximum size of 45 inches, except for Toronto which is 22 pounds.

Lovebird Economy Class passengers are allowed two free checked pieces of baggage with a maximum weight of 50 pounds and a maximum size of 62 inches each. Lovebird Executive Class passengers are allowed three free checked bags with the same maximum weight and size.

Air Jamaica will continue to accept overweight baggage that is within the free allowance, weighing over 50 pounds but not more than 70 pounds, for an additional charge. The overweight charge is per piece and will be accepted subject to availability of space.

Passengers exceeding the free baggage allowance during the 2008 holiday season will have the option to check up to three extra pieces at specified charges. No excess pieces will be accepted at check-in from Dec. 1 to 31 between New York (JFK) and Grenada or between New York (JFK) and Barbados.

From Dec. 19 to 26, no excess baggage will be accepted from all other U.S. gateways to Jamaica. Passengers wishing to carry more than three pieces of excess baggage and baggage weighing over 70 pounds must send their pieces by Air Jamaica Cargo.
