Air Jamaica Gets Safety Commendation From IATA
Air Jamaica was recently commended by the International Air Transport Association’s IOSA (IATA international operational safety audit) program, for maintaining its safety record.
A certificate was awarded to the airline for conforming to all 942 safety standards, an accomplishment that allows the national carrier to join the IATA Operational Audit (IOSA) registry comprised of approximately 186 airlines worldwide.
“Air Jamaica has maintained an unblemished safety record since its inception1969, and with this audit we had the chance, again, to prove that safety is our number one concern,” said Paul Pennicook, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Air Jamaica.
The auditing process began for Air Jamaica in 2005 and spanned a year. The benefits to Air Jamaica as a certified IOSA member are numerous and include a reduction of costs, audit resource requirements for airlines and regulators and continuous updating of standards to reflect regulatory revisions and the evolution of best practices within industry.
