Anschutz Unit Closes on Windstar Cruises Purchase
Xanterra Parks & Resorts, Philip Anschutz's Greenwood Village-based tourism business, says it has completed the purchase of Windstar Cruises. The acquisition follows the U.S. Bankruptcy Court 's recent approval of sale of the assets of Ambassadors International Inc., which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization on April 1.
TAC Cruise LLC, owned by Xanterra Holding Corp., won the competitive court bidding process for Windstar with a $39 million cash bid. Windstar will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Xanterra Holding, and operations will continue uninterrupted.
"The first order of business for Windstar Cruises is that it is full sail ahead," Andrew Todd, president & CEO of Xanterra Parks & Resorts, said in a statement.
"Going forward, we intend to maintain Windstar's business and operations and invest in Windstar's growth for the long term. We are very excited to have Windstar Cruises become part of Xanterra's 135-year legacy in hospitality," Todd said.
Ambassadors operates Windstar’s three-ship fleet of luxury yachts, which sail to the Caribbean, Europe, the Americas and the Greek Isles.
