Argentina-Cuba Tourism to Exceed 2010 Total by June End

Argentina’s tourism market will send more tourists to Cuba by the end of this month than it did the entire year of 2010, said sources for this sector here today.

By June 10, a total of 58,199 passengers travelled from Argentina to Cuba, a figure very close to 58,604 recorded throughout all of 2010, explained the director of the Office of Information and Promotion of Tourism in Cuba for the Southern Cone, Luis Aguilera.

These numbers signify a growth rate of 47.07 percent over the same period of 2011 and 83.84 percent of the 2010 number, remarked the representative from the Cuban Tourism Ministry. This consolidates Argentina as one of the top five source markets for Cuba, which during the course of this year has received nearly 1,500,000 visitors.

As a whole, by June 10 the Southern Cone had sent more than 92,000,600 passengers to various tourist destinations in Cuba, an increase of 32.60 percent compared to the same period in 2011 and 63.70 percent over 2010.

The striking performance of Argentina’s tourism market in recent years was recognized by Cuban tourism authorities when they designated it as Guest of Honor at the latest edition of the International Tourism Fair FITCUBA 2012, held in May at Santa Maria Cay.
