Barbados: Excellence Is Key to Tourism Success

Keith Miller, Owner/CEO at Miller Publishing Company Limited believes that it is only with excellence that Barbados can differentiate its tourism product from the rest of the world.

Speaking on the topic ‘Achieving Excellence’ recently at Ocean Two Resort and Residences Award ceremony he outlined that with the increased economic challenges, visitors are demanding more value for their money thus the vacation experience needs to be excellent.

Miller elaborated, “We are faced with challenging times in the business world and only the best will succeed and thrive. Competition in the tourism industry is tougher today than it has ever been, as a result of increased exposure on the internet and easier travel access to remote destinations around the world, the modern traveller has a vast range of holiday destinations to choose from, therefore there is no divine right for Barbados to win that business. Hotels are not competing with other hotels on the island but those around the world.

When a person books their trip they are looking forward to a spectacular vacation and because there is so much competition in the world they will always be looking for value for their money, they don’t mind spending the money but if they choose to come to Barbados we must ensure they have a wonderful experience.

We want them to say Barbados is the best destination I have ever visited, this is a huge challenge, but the hard fact is that if Barbados is to stand a chance of meeting that challenge we must achieve excellence at every single level as a country, resort, department and individual.”

He believes, “The only way to achieve excellence is every single one of us has to strive for excellence at a personal level, we must play our part and understand we have a big part to play. Excellence must be a way of life, achieving excellence is getting better at what you do on a regular basis, growing your knowledge, improving your performance and giving it your best shot every day of your life.”
