Barbados has a new winter service from Toronto, Sunwing Airlines, which made its inaugural flight to the island on Friday December 21, 2007. The flight is a product of greater efforts by the Barbados Tourism Authority’s Canadian office to capture a greater share of that target market.

Barbados also recently signed an air services agreement with Canada that is expected to increase opportunities, particularly from the western side of that region.

Minister of Tourism, Noel Lynch, sharing a light moment with members of the flight team from the inaugural Sunwing flight from Toronto. Barbados remained on track to welcoming an estimated 60,000 long stay visitors from Canada in 2007.

Visitor arrivals are also expected to increase during the winter season following the unprecedented strength of the Canadian dollar, which exceeded the value of the US dollar for the first time in nearly 30 years in 2007.
