Bhutan Maintains 2008 Visitor Spending Minimums
The government of Bhutan has set minimums on the per diem expenditures of the travelers who enter the country for a number of years. In nearly every year since the minimums have been imposed that cost has increased, but in light of the current economic conditions, the government has decided to keep costs at the same level as 2008.
Those rates are as follows: $200 per day per person for groups of three or more, $230 per day per person for two people and $240 per day for single travelers. The 2009 off-season minimums per person, valid in July and August, are $165 per day per person for groups of three or more people, $195 per day for two people and $205 per day for single travelers.
The government does not charge a royalty fee for children under the age of 6; expenses for food and bedding will be charged. Children from 6 through 12 accompanied by their parents or guardians receive a 50 percent discount on the daily rates.
