The British Virgin Islands is to get at least three daily flights with LIAT airline between Tortola and San Juan, Puerto Rico. An agreement to this effect was signed on Monday between LIAT and the BVI government.

Signing on behalf of the BVI was Communications and Works Minister Julian Fraser, who said that LIAT’s Executive Officer Mark Darby had promised to assist the BVI and he was happy that he was able to follow through on that promise.

A GIS release stated that Diane Shurland, who signed the confidential agreement on behalf of LIAT, said the airline responded almost immediately to the government’s request to provide this service to the territory.

“We have tried our best to assist and will continue to assist the government at its request to provide any traveling member of the public with a direct service from Tortola to San Juan,” Shurland added

Fraser is urging residents to take advantage of the daily service between Tortola and San Juan, adding that government cannot afford to pay a revenue guarantee agreement indefinitely.
