Caribbean Airlines, Air Jamaica to Operate Under “BW” Code

All Air Jamaica flights, effective July 1, will operate under the same “BW” airline code as Caribbean Airlines. This means that travel agents should expect to see Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines flights advertised with the BW code followed by respective flight number across all media advertising, airport and booking/ticketing information. For example, Air Jamaica flight JM79 which operates from Toronto to Kingston will now be displayed as BW79.

“We continue to pursue our philosophy of ‘one airline, two brands’ since we officially signed the shareholder’s agreement on May 26,” said Robert Corbie, Caribbean Airlines acting CEO. “This will mark a milestone in the streamlining and merging of operations and routes.”

Operating under one “BW” code means that as “one airline, two brands” Caribbean Airlines and Air Jamaica will be able to realize the cost synergies that were anticipated from the onset. In addition to operating under the same flight code, the airlines are moving towards one fleet type for both Caribbean Airlines and Air Jamaica and customers will also notice that front line staff for both carriers will be custom uniformed to represent both brands.

The two airlines will keep their respective websites and loyalty reward programs, Caribbean Miles and 7th Heaven Rewards, which will continue to be run separately. In-flight entertainment will feature elements from both brands. “We have maintained the Caribbean Airlines and Air Jamaica experience by retaining separate in-flight videos and magazines for that distinction between the brands for the customer, as we want our customers to experience the best service from both brands as a result of Caribbean Airlines acquiring Air Jamaica routes, not only in-flight, but the best service in terms of reliability, scheduling and on-time-performance,” said Corbie.
