British Colonial HiltonThe British Colonial Hilton, a landmark property at the foot of Bay Street in downtown Nassau, Bahamas, has been sold to the China State Construction Engineering Corp.

China State is the company building the Baha Mar complex on Cable Beach in Nassau. Hilton, which has managed the property for 15 years, plans to continue in that role, according to a spokesperson.

The agreement includes the purchase and redevelopment of the 288-room hotel and adjacent vacant land. China State plans to create a luxury hotel and condominium units on the vacant land.

The British Colonial Hilton is the only hotel in downtown Nassau with private beach access. It underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2009.
