CLIA Enlists Record Number of Cruise Night Events

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) travel agencies hosted a record number of World’s Largest Cruise Night (WLCN) events around North America. More than 3,500 traditional and online events were planned. With major cruise lines providing incentives, special offers and assistance, CLIA encouraged travel agents to sign up for their own events.

Additionally, for the first time, agents could host Virtual WLCN events. Currently, more than 900 agencies hosted events, already exceeding the total number held last year.

And new for 2007, over 2,600 agencies were hosting Virtual WLCN events. Agents and locations associated with Liberty Travel, Cruise Planners and CruiseOne/Cruises Inc. were hosting events or participating in the virtual version.

In its third year, WLCN, the centerpiece for CLIA’s October National Cruise Vacation Month, was held on October 17. Over 700 agencies participated in 2006, generating $18.5 million in cruise sales and more than $2.4 million in travel agency commissions.
