The first phase of the new Sans Souci cruise terminal has opened outside of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In the first phase, two terminals were built, each capable of docking three cruise ships at a time. Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas is operating cruises out of the San Souci terminal this winter.

A third and larger terminal for ships up to 5,000 passengers will follow as will several hotels, a convention center, a shopping complex and apartment buildings. The entire project will cost about $900 million.

The opening of the cruise terminal comes on the heels of a multimillion-dollar upgrade to the Punta Cana airport.
