Cuba Reports Increased Tourist Arrivals from Argentina

Cuba reported an increase in tourist arrivals from Argentina, from where more than 21,000 travelers had visited the Caribbean island by February 19, according to sources from the Cuban Office of Information and Promotion of Tourism for the Southern Cone.

Until then, 21,337 Argentinean passengers had traveled to Cuba, accounting for an increase of 34.94 percent compared to the same period in 2011, the official source said.

This positive performance was driven by an increase in tourist arrivals in January, when more than 14,000 Argentinean travelers flew to Cuba, an inter-annual growth of 36.45 percent, and 87.11 percent more if compared with results in January-2010.

According to the Cuban Office of Information and Promotion of Tourism, another major tourist-sending market in the Southern Cone is Chile, which had sent 3,842 travelers to Cuba until February 19, accounting for an 8-percent increase in the month.

Other markets that increased their number of travelers to Cuba so far in 2012 are Brazil, with a 9.45-percent growth compared to the previous year, Peru (22.03) and Paraguay (69.44), while Uruguay fell short by two points to reach the level of the previous year.
