Delta Vacations Adds St. Croix to Growing Caribbean Destination Base
Tour operator Delta Vacations is now offering travel packages to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, said a company official. The announcement follows Delta Air Lines’ launch this winter of non-stop air service to St. Croix from Atlanta beginning in December.
Bookings are now available on St. Croix packages for travel beginning December 20, the same date Delta Air Lines will launch the weekly Atlanta-St. Croix flights. The Delta Vacations packages will be offered in partnership with five St. Croix hotels: The Buccaneer, Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa, the Divi Carina Bay Resort & Casino, Palms at Pelican Cove and Sand Castle on the Beach.
Delta Air Lines’ weekly service will depart Saturdays and utilize MD-88 aircraft with 149 seats on the route. The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism has partnered with Delta to promote the new flights. "We are committed to bolstering service to the entire Territory and these new flights are part and parcel of our strategy," said Beverly Nicholson-Doty, U.S.V.I. tourism commissioner.
She said the tourism department will “reach out to the private sector to develop packages and promotions to spur advance sales.” The marketing strategy will include “in-market activities” targeting consumers and travel agents, Nicholoson-Doty said.
“We anticipate promoting this service throughout the Atlanta metro area, and in key feeder markets such as Alabama, Ohio, Minnesota and Tennessee.”
The new St. Croix service adds to Delta Vacations’ growing roster of Caribbean destinations, and follows the company’s July launch of vacation packages in Barbados.
