Dominican Republic Sees Visitor Increase in First Half of Year
Visitors from Central America, the Caribbean and the rest of the world made up the balance. From January through July, 83,577 more U.S. tourists visited the D.R. compared with the first seven months of 2012, according to a Central Bank spokesman.
Tourism from Russia increased by more than 16,000 visitors. Other European countries posting visitor increases to the D.R. included Germany, Sweden and the U.K.
More than 63% of tourists to the D.R. entered via the Punta Cana Airport, followed by Santo Domingo's Las Americas Airport and Puerto Plata Airport.
