Dominican Republic Tourist Arrivals Higher Up in Third Quarter
Tourist arrivals in the Dominican Republic were up 7.3 percent in the first nine months of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, according to the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, which compiles national tourism data. A total of 3.5 million travelers have visited the country to through September of this year, an increase of 239,630 visitors over 2011 totals.
Travelers from the U.S. represented the majority of the increased arrivals, with an additional 146,852 visitors. The increased third quarter totals continue a strong year in tourism for the country, which earlier set a record for most-ever visitors between January and March.
