Ecuador Announces New Regulations for Adventure Tourism Operators

Ecuador Minister of Tourism Vinicio Alvarado last week presented new regulations for adventure tourism operations in the country. Before an audience of Ecuador's leading tour operators, he called upon the industry to strengthen its commitment to the country through the quality of their services and by upholding the standards established for adventure activities.

"We are here to support you, to guide you, and to lead you towards compliance with these standards," said Minister Alvarado.

The regulation aims to standardize and provide a structural framework for the operation of tourism companies in Ecuador. All companies must come into full compliance with the new standards within six months, excluding the training of tour guides and instructors which must meet the new regulations within 18 months.

“With the implementation of these standards, we are welcoming visitors from around the world to experience the world-class adventure offering of Ecuador, from snorkeling in Galapagos and surfing along the Pacific Coast to biking along our Andean volcanoes and hiking in the Amazon – experiences that can only be found in Ecuador.”
