According to a report released by the El Salvador Ministry of Tourism through the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (CORSATUR), for the holiday period of Aug. 1-6 a total of 29,355 visitors entered the country, for a whopping increase of 65.6 percent.

The government agency also reported that during the vacation period fewer Salvadorans left the country. The figure has gone down by 17.35 percent, which is to say 5,594 fewer citizens departed in comparison with the year before. Those who did leave the country went to Guatemala (14,760); Honduras (3,507) and Nicaragua (921). In total, 26,655 people left the country.

For this August holiday period, Rochi explained, what is available in the way of entertainment and relaxation has become more diverse. The range of alternatives has expanded, to include, for instance, the Consumer Fair, which had record attendance of more than 400,000 visitors this year; events in Cuscatlan Park; the construction of two fairgrounds for San Salvador, as well as activities at El Cafetalon, Los Chorros and El Boqueron, which are some of the choices capital residents had this season, aside from the traditional amusements of sun, beach, mountain and colonial towns.

Hotel occupancy was nearly 81 percent at beach, mountain and colonial town locations. CORSATUR’s survey has shown once again that the Ruta de las Flores itinerary and accommodations provided by the five towns on this circuit achieved a high rate of occupancy, on par with the Costa del Sol.
