Environment Break: The Cleanup of Cayman’s Beaches
Cayman is surrounded by beautiful beaches and coastlines, and the Department of Environment (DOE) wants to keep it that way. That’s why it’s asking for businesses, organizations, and individuals to take part in a beach clean on Friday 19 September.
The cleanup is being held as part of Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Clean Up. The organization collects data from around the world and publishes reports that explain the causes of pollution.
Nathan Dack of the DOE explains that beach clean ups like this is about more than making Cayman’s coast look nice:
“In Cayman, as many other parts of the Caribbean, we have a problem with trash. And it impacts our tourism and also our lives as residents. It’s really important that we clean it up for that fact, but also for its impact on our natural environment and species that we value.”
