Fred Olsen Cruise to Host Pop Singer Lulu this Fall

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines announced that pop singer Lulu will perform in November on one of the line’s first departures from Portsmouth, England. Best known for singing the title song in the 1967 movie “To Sir, With Love,” starring Sidney Poitier, Lulu will perform with the Leo Green band. Green is a noted jazz saxophonist who has played with Van Morrison for 10 years, Jeff Beck, Jerry Lee Lewis and others.

For two nights, Lulu and the band will be performing a tribute to Motown Records, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Scottish-born star will sing many Motown classics as well as her career-defining hit, “Shout.”

Lulu will be on the 856-passenger Boudicca, which departs Portsmouth on Nov. 8 for the 10-night “Autumn in Iberian Sun” cruise to Bilbao and La Coruna, Spain; Gibraltar; and Leixoes (for Oporto) and Lisbon, Portugal. Cruise rates begin at $1,514 per person, double occupancy.

Lulu is among the headline performers in Olsen’s 2009-10 autumn and winter Music at Sea program. Other acts include The Drifters, Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen and sixties pop group, The Merseybeats. Music at Sea features Latin, jazz, opera and soul as well as comedy.
