Funjet Lowers Deposits for Delta, US Airways Vacations

Funjet Vacations has lowered deposits on vacations that include airfare on Delta Air Lines and US Airways to $150 per person for the continental U.S., Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico, and $300 for Europe.

Funjet already offers this low-deposit policy with AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.

Clients pay in full within 45 days of departure. Previously, consumers had to pay the published airfare in full.

Since the average domestic airfare is currently $374, according to the latest figures from the Department of Transportation, and airfares to Europe are significantly higher, this means travel agents can offer consumers a much lower deposit option. A family of four planning a trip in which airfare for each individual costs $400 can pay a $600 deposit several months out instead of a $1,600 deposit.

"This really gives travel agents even more opportunities to close sales. This is also a change we made based on travel agent feedback, so we want them to know that we are definitely listening," said Mike Going, president of Funjet. He said that adding Delta and US Airways to Funjet's low-deposit lineup, combined with low deposits on hotel-only vacations, "gives us the best deposit policy in the industry."
