Grupo Aeromexico Reports 4.1 Percent Increase in Passengers

Grupo Aeromexico, which announced new nonstop service between New York and Cancun in June, transported 1.24 million passengers in June 2012, which represents 4.1 percent year-on-year growth for the month of June. International passenger traffic grew 8.2 percent and domestic passenger traffic grew 2.7 percent.

The total number of passengers transported in the first half of 2012 reached 7.18 million, a 6.1 percent year-on-year increase, with an 11 percent increase in international passenger traffic and a 4.5 percent increase in domestic passenger traffic. Grupo Aeromexico's demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK's), increased 7 percent year-on-year in June, and capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK's), grew 9.5 percent. As a result, the load factor for the month was 76.8 percent.

The company's RPKs increased 6.7 percent and ASKs increased 7 percent in the first half of the year. Therefore, the load factor was 76.7 percent. According to the latest report published by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil -- Mexico's national aviation authority), in May of 2012, Grupo Aeromexico controlled 39 percent of the domestic market and 15 percent of the international market. In the first five months of the year, Grupo Aeromexico's overall market share was 25 percent, with 40 percent of the domestic market and 12 percent of the international market.
