Guyana Ranks in Top Ten Wild Adventures in Latin America
Guyana recently participated in the World Travel Market (WTM) travel and trade show held in London where a high level of interest was expressed in Guyana by an increasing number of tour operators and travel writers, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has said in a release.
A large number of new and reputable high end tour companies have expressed interest in Guyana, the release stated. “They are looking for unique, off-the-beaten path, pristine destinations such as Guyana. The fact that Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America gives us a competitive advantage. Operators are keen to bring their clients to a destination which offers numerous niche opportunities,” the release added.
This trade show provided the platform for Guyana to meet, network and negotiate with over 47,000 business professionals including tour operators, travel agents, the media, travel writers, film makers, tourist boards, conservation groups, universities and service providers.
At the launch of Destination Amazonia Year 2009 and the launching of Amazonia Year’s Calendar of Events, Guyana listed the Rockstone Fish Festival, the Rupununi Rodeo, the Pakaraima Mountain Safari, Mashramani and an International Eco-Tourism Conference among the activities for Destination Amazonia Year.
Since Guyana’s attendance at the WTM, Wilderness Explorers has reported a huge demand for travel to Guyana as well as an increase in the number of new tour operators wanting to sell and promote the country.
