Half-Year Visitor Numbers Up 6.6 Percent in the Dominican Republic
Visitor arrivals to the Dominican Republic from January through June increased 6.6 percent from a year ago, to 2.2 million, according to the country’s ministry of tourism.
The U.S. market accounted for 32 percent of all visitors, followed by Europe (23.2 percent) and Canada (22.6 percent).
Punta Cana remains the most popular destination, according to the ministry of tourism. The region’s international airport received 53 percent of the arrivals in the first six months, followed by Santo Domingo (25 percent), Puerto Plata (16 percent) and La Romana (6 percent).
