Construction of the road that links Santo Domingo with Samana, the Portilllo, Catey and Arroyo Barril airports and a plan to overhaul the territory have raised interest among local and foreign investors that look into investing in tourism projects in Samana and other regions of northern Dominican Republic.

It is expected that this investment boom will triplicate the hotel offer there at two thousand rooms in Samana.

In addition, a water treatment station is under construction in Las Terrenas that will include the sewage system there.

As a way of guaranteeing safety for visitors, the Tourism Safety Commission projects to put into effect an action plan for the Samana Bay that would address natural disasters and prevention.

The other important project currently underway that will convert the region into a first-class travel destination is the road to hook up Santo Domingo with Samana, expected to shorten the ride by an hour and a half, currently a four-hour drive.
