Jamaica Reports 6.4 Percent Increase in Summer Overnight Arrivals
Overnight arrivals in Jamaica increased 6.4 percent for the period from May 1 to Aug. 7, 2012, compared with the same period in 2011, according to Wykeham McNeill, the country’s minister of tourism and entertainment. The increase represents more than 32,000 additional arrivals. Overnight arrivals for the four-month period totaled 539,957 travelers, compared with 507,298 for the same period in 2011.
McNeill attributed the increase to “aggressive marketing, through which we have been able to drive the inflow of visitors to the island. The tourism sector is poised for further growth in 2012 and will provide a welcome boost to the economy,” he said.
