Lufthansa Unveils Long-Haul Menus with World Cup Theme

Lufthansa is giving its first and business class menus a World Cup theme on long-haul flights in May and June. During these two months, First and Business Class passengers on all long-haul flights departing from Germany will have an opportunity to enjoy menus created by Holger Stromberg.

Since 2007 the young, star-rated cook has also been chef to Germany’s national football team and a member of the squad’s official support team. On June 6, he will travel to the World Cup along with the players on Lufthansa’s inaugural flight with the new A380 to Johannesburg.

A sample menu includes mousse and salad of green and white asparagus, breast of quail on mango and peperonata chutney and potato terrine with white chocolate, North Sea shrimp and lettuce jus with parsley oil. As a main dish, passengers can choose saddle of veal with cocoa, rhubarb, shallot compote and potato gnocchi or olive and brittle crusted black halibut, orange and peppercorn sauce, leaf spinach and Parisienne potatoes.

Also on offer are coq au vin of spring chicken, pearl onions, parsley puree and Venus rice and a classic asparagus dish. For dessert, passengers have a choice of woodruff and prosecco jelly with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries or strawberry and coconut tartlet with passion fruit coulis served with vanilla ice cream.

Passengers who like more substantial fare will also find something to their taste. As a second meal on westbound long-haul flights, hearty specialties will be offered. These include Holger Stromberg’s famous curry sausage with spicy potato wedges and vegetarian lard Waltrop-style on pumpernickel bread.
