Mexico Reports 7.1 Percent Increase in International Air Arrivals
The Mexico Ministry of Tourism reported international air arrivals increased by 7.1 percent in September, compared to the same month the prior year. The number of air travelers from the U.S. and Canada grew by 3.7 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The U.K. registered growth of 9.8 percent; Costa Rica, 109.8 percent; Russia, 103.1 percent; Venezuela, 61.7 percent; Israel, 49.5 percent; Panama, 46.5 percent; Chile, 38.7 percent; Argentina, 31.4 percent; and China, 28.9 percent. Japan also reported growth in the number of visitors to Mexico during September, registering growth of 22.4 percent; Peru, 20.9 percent; Colombia, 19.9 percent; and South Korea, 16.9 percent, compared to the same period the previous year.
During the first nine months of 2012, more than 8 million international visitors traveled to Mexico, a figure 6.1 percent higher than the same period the prior year. An increase was reported in the number of visitors from 137 countries, most notably Russia with an increase of 87.3 percent; Guatemala, up 48.5 percent; Venezuela, up 47.9 percent; and Brazil, Costa Rica and Peru, up 44.3 percent, 33.8 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
