One Million Tourists Have Visited Cuba so Far this Year

Cuba has already been visited by one million foreign vacationers this year, a new record high the largest Caribbean island nation, according to the Cuban tourism ministry.

The figure was reported on Saturday, 11 days before a similar number of tourists was announced in 2014, up a staggering double-digit percentage (14 percent) in arrivals for the first quarter of the year, the ministry noted.

Major travel outbound markets continue to be Canada, Germany, France, the UK and Italy. American sunbathers, though, are also coming to Cuba in larger numbers this year.

Having reached that figure as early as March, bears out the preference of foreign tourists for the Caribbean island as a favorite holiday destination, though it also post increasing challenges for workers in the travel industry, the ministry noted in a press release.
