Rebound of Haiti’s Tourism Also Under Way

Haiti’s Ministry of Tourism laid the foundation stone on a new tourism welcome office in the town of Milot this weekend. The project is a joint effort by Haiti’s National Institute for Historic Preservation, the International Finance Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank.

It is the latest step by the ministry and Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin as Haiti seeks to build a new tourism infrastructure in the country. The town of Milot is five miles from the historic citadel and Sans Souci Palace of King Henri I of Haiti, which was built in the early 19th century.

The fortress was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982. The town has been the site of a project by Haiti advocate Ron Daniels, who has been looking to help Milot position itself as one of Haiti’s major destinations, with the goal of building a boutique hotel.
