Secluded Dominican Region Basks in Ecotourism Boom

A boom in ecotourism has already made it the fastest-growing segment and the global tourism market’s most dynamic sector. This movement appeared at the end of the 1980's and has attracted such much interest at the international level, that the UN designated 2002 as “Eco-tourism year.”

Although with various interpretations, it’s usually promoted as "ethical" ecological tourism, which also focuses on the local populations’ wellbeing.

Barahona can boast two sites to enjoy ecotourism as evidenced by international awards bestowed on Casa Bonita, responsible for the area’s upswing, and operates based on well-being, fun and health.

Nestled in an area for getaways with an infinite view of the Caribbean, the hotel boutique Casa Bonita Tropical Lodge is a destination to unwind which has been dubbed “the door to the region’s riches" and internationally recognized as the key factor in Barahona’s comeback.

Rancho Platón meanwhile boasts the certification of Dominican Treasures, and reaffirmed by the Dominican Tourism Competitiveness Consortium (CDCT), based on global sustainable tourism criteria.
