Sisserou Airways, a new airline based at Melville Hall Airport on Dominica, has launched service between Dominica and St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Barbados. Sisserou is offering three flights per week between Dominica and each of the three Caribbean islands. The flights on 19-seat Jetstreams are timed to connect with flights from the U.S.

The airline’s name was “carefully chosen,” according to Erwin Ferreira, Sisserou’s director of operations. “The Sisserou, one of two parrots that exist only on Dominica, is our national bird. We want to be Dominica’s national carrier.”

The 71-room Fort Young Hotel in Roseau has teamed up with Sisserou to offer incentives, including a 10 percent discount on dive packages through Jan. 31 and a 50 percent discount on the second checked piece of luggage, dropping the price to $25. The first checked bag is free.
