Thomas Cook to Shed Hundreds of Jobs

Travel group Thomas Cook is to shed hundreds of jobs at its administration office in Bradford in the north of England. The company announced that the centre is to close with the loss of 537 jobs.
A company spokesman said that 468 jobs were at risk of redundancy while 609 jobs will be transferred to a nearby company office in Birkenshaw. Thomas Cook added that of the posts under threat, 244 could potentially be relocated to other offices in Preston, Peterborough and Falkirk in Scotland.
In a statement, Thomas Cook said it had "made a commitment to improve the profitability of the UK business and the announcement was part of this".
