Cuban tourism products were promoted in Japan during their annual International Fair, JATA 2008, in an effort to boost the Japanese market.

Representatives of Cuban tour operators Cubanacan Viajes, Cubatur and Havanatur participated in the fair, in a delegation headed by Miguel Figueras, Tourism Ministry Advisor, reported the Cuban Foreign Relations Ministry on its website.

The Cuban stand featured a performance by Cuban artists who showed the culture of the Caribbean island, its music and dances, attracting the attention of the Japanese public.

The Cuban representatives also threw a party called “A Cuban Evening” in a modern building in the city. More than 60 tourism companies participated and the audience enjoyed a presentation on the Cuban tourism potential made by the experts from the island.
During the fair, the Cuban delegation held several meetings with important tour operators and travel agencies interested in working with the island in the mid and long term. They also met with representatives of several airlines seeking to find more feasible ways to connect the two archipelagos.

The Cuban experts were received by Japan’s First Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Cuba welcomes around 6,000 tourists from Japan every year, even though the Caribbean island has not been widely promoted as a destination in that Asian country.
