Tourism Figures for Puerto Vallarta Rise for First Half of the Year
Puerto Vallarta is witnessing a surge in its visitor numbers, as reported by the Mexico Ministry of Tourism. The destination saw 1,129,649 hotel room occupancies from January to May, an increase of 11,115 rooms over the same period last year.
The Ministry of Tourism also reported that June and July saw occupancy rates rise 1.8 percent over the same period last year. Puerto Vallarta welcomed 790,102 tourist arrivals during the first half of 2013, an 8.46 percent over 2012.
In part, the destination’s healthy tourism numbers can be attributed to increased accessibility and hotel developments. Delta airlines inaugurated nine nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta, and in May 2014 will introduce two weekly flights from Great Britain projected. It is anticipated that those flights will result in bringing 12,000 passengers to the destination during the summer season. In the fall Aeromexico will launch flights from New York’s JFK, Philadelphia and St. Louis.
Puerto Vallarta will add new properties by year’s end, including the Holiday Inn Express and AMResorts’ Dreams.
