The shareholder governments of Caribbean airline LIAT are in discussions with Venezuela to acquire a stake in the carrier. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are the current shareholders in LIAT.

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt said that Venezuela has expressed an interest in investing in the airline, and that a draft proposal is in the works, according to news reports. Further discussions will be held in Caracas.

Antigua-based LIAT, which flies to 21 destinations in the Caribbean, is currently in the process of replacing its aging fleet. Last December, LIAT unveiled a business plan that it said would help turn around the struggling airline.
