Work Continues on Jamaica Air, Cruise Ports
Expansion at Jamaica’s airports in Montego Bay and Kingston is proceeding on course, according to the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The first two phases of the three-phase expansion project at Norman Manley Airport in Kingston are under way with the third set to open in 2013. The new arrivals hall and ground transportation hall will be operational by year’s end.
At Sangster Airport in Montego Bay, work will be completed by December on the new departures lounge and domestic terminal.
The Port Authority of Jamaica will soon complete plans for a new cruise pier at Falmouth, which will welcome the Oasis of the Seas in May 2010, the first of Royal Caribbean’s new Genesis class of 5,000-passenger cruise ships. The new facility will be able to accommodate two ships at the same time.
Montego Bay’s Berth 2 Terminal has added air conditioning. In Ocho Rios, the passenger terminal has been expanded. Plans are on the drawing board for the development of new piers at the East Harbor in Port Antonio and at Port Royal outside Kingston.
