Yahoo and Nokia have signed a deal to strengthen their mobile Internet offerings, particularly in emerging markets. Nokia will run mapping and navigation services for Yahoo, while the Internet company will provide e-mail and instant messaging services on Nokia phones.

The services will be co-branded, with Yahoo’s navigation services and maps “powered by” Ovi, Nokia’s brand of software and services. Nokia’s Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat will likewise be “powered by” Yahoo. The services will start to become available later this year and will be offered worldwide in 2011.

It is being highlighted that Nokia is expected to benefit from content the company will get access to. It will support its application store and other services, where it badly lags Apple’s iPhone and devices running Google’s Android operating system.
