Vueling achieved a better EBIT margin during the first quarter of 2010 than in 2009 (-9 percent vs. -13 percent during the same period of 2009), thanks to improvements in costs based on costs reduction plan (Vueling saved €9,6m for the first quarter 2010).

LIAT, the Caribbean airline, has been invited to submit proposals to Eastern Caribbean Ministers of Tourism, through the OECS Secretariat, outlining various ways in which member states can assist in improving intra-regional travel.

Next month, Delta Air Lines will resume seasonal service to Valencia on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Starting May 28, Delta will offer four non-stop flights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York to Valencia Airport in Manises (VLC). Return flights from Valencia to JFK will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

A GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. said that it has filed with Delta Air Lines a request for authorization to implement a codeshare agreement with Brazilian and U.S. authorities. The codeshare will initially allow Delta to assign its code to more than 45 GOL flights departing from Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo to other Brazilian destinations, as well as two GOL flights between Brazil and Paraguay and Uruguay, pending government approval.

The International Air Traffic Association is reporting that the upturn in international air travel continued in February, reflecting the increasingly positive economic environment. Premium travel rose 5.9 percent in February, while economy travel was up 6.9 percent. Total international passenger numbers increased by 6.8 percent in February, less than the 9.5 percent rise in RPKs due to increasing average distances flown.

Regional airline Windward Islands Airways (WINAIR) has upgraded its website to allow passengers from the islands of Saba, St Eustatius and St Maarten to purchase tickets on Insel Air.
