The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced an industry strategy for profitable growth in Latin American aviation. “Profitable growth requires that all aviation stakeholders in Latin America -- airlines, airports and infrastructure providers -- work with a common vision to achieve our priorities: safety, security, cost reduction, environmental responsibility and liberalization,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s director general and CEO in the opening address of the Wings of Change conference in Santiago, Chile.
Virgin America will expand its network, adding daily nonstop flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) beginning Aug. 19.
JetBlue Airways has announced a second daily nonstop flight to Kingston, Jamaica from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The airline, which has been steadily expanding in Jamaica throughout the past year, will now offer travelers up to six departures a day from the United States to Jamaica including: two nonstops from JFK to Kingston; two nonstops from JFK to Montego Bay; one daily nonstop from Orlando to Montego Bay; and bi-weekly nonstop service from Boston to Montego Bay.
British Airways will launch its second weekly flight to St Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport at the end of this month. This was confirmed Monday by the St Kitts Tourism Authority’s Director of Communication’s Saju NG’alla who said the flight would begin on March 30.
US Airways is adding service to Canada and Mexico this summer from its hubs in Philadelphia and Charlotte. On May 31, US Airways will begin daily, year-round service between Charlotte and Ottawa. Air Wisconsin will operate the service under the US Airways Express brand with 50-seat Canadair regional jets.
Frontier Airlines said it will extend its seasonal nonstop service between Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Cancun International Airport (CUN) through Aug. 28, 2010, the first time the airline has offered summer nonstop service on the route.
