Paul Pennicook, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Air Jamaica, has resigned effective Sept. 30, according to Air Jamaica. Pennicook’s future plans have not yet been announced.
Second-quarter profit at Groupe Aeroplan fell 36 percent as its cost of rewards and other expenses rose, the consumer loyalty operator said. Aeroplan, best known as Air Canada’s frequent flier program operator, earned CAD$31.5 million ($29.7 million), down from year-earlier CAD$49.5 million.
Virtuoso has added Virgin Charter, an online marketplace and booking tool for private air travel, to its roster of travel providers. Virgin Charter is the fourth company in the Virgin family to join the Virtuoso network.
American Airlines said on Thursday it finalized a deal to buy 26 Boeing 737s, worth about $1.9 billion at list prices, as the carrier looks to update its fleet of older planes. American exercised purchase options on 20 of the planes, and placed six new orders, in a move to speed up the replacement of its gas-guzzling, 1980s-era MD-80s.
Aeromexico said it will double its existing service between Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Monterrey, Mexico, while also switching to a more convenient schedule for business travelers.
Jamaica will receive increased airlift from Delta Air Lines on its Atlanta/Montego Bay route beginning this winter. Starting Dec. 20, travelers will have three daily flights to select from when flying to Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
