After floating out of a German shipyard last week, the $935 million Quantum of the Seas will spend the winter running between New York and the Caribbean before moving to its new base next summer in mainland China’s financial center.

For the first time, Carnival Pride will operate a series of 10- to 14-day Caribbean cruises round-trip from Baltimore and one-way between Baltimore and San Juan featuring some of the region's most breathtaking destinations.

The cruise business must be going well for the people over at Carnival, as they have a whole bunch of money available to invest in a brand new port. All in all it looks like the cruise line will be throwing down around $70 million to build a brand new private port in Haiti.

Today’s travelers want an authentic experience when they travel. They want unique destinations and a true taste of the culture, gastronomy and history of a place. And, as modern life becomes more hectic, they want a travel experience that dissolves their cares from the moment they depart. They want a temporary home in the stars…

Carnival Corp. plans to build a $70 million cruise facility on an island in Haiti. The company, which operates 10 cruise brands, signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an island called Tortuga off the northern coast of Haiti.

Carnival Corp. ordered a new ship for its Princess Cruises brand from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The 143,000-ton, 3,560-passenger vessel, a sister to the Royal Princess and Regal Princess, is scheduled for delivery in 2017.

“Royal Princess and Regal Princess have been exceptionally successful for us and have received numerous accolades from guests, travel agents and media, so adding another sister ship will enable us to continue to expand our innovative vacation experiences,” said Princess President Jan Schwartz.
