Beginning in May 2010, Celebrity Cruises’ Century will offer four- and five-night Caribbean itineraries year-round instead of limiting them to the winter season. The 2010-11 sailings on the 1,814-guest, recently refurbished Century are now open for sale.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. reported its first quarter 2009 net loss was $36.2 million, or $0.17 per share, compared to net income of $75.6 million, or $0.35 per share in 2008. The company said the results were significantly better than prior guidance of a loss of between $0.30 and $0.35.

Royal Caribbean International’s 220,000-ton Oasis of the Seas will debut the Tony award-winning musical “Hairspray” in December. One of two productions to take place in the Opal Theater, “Hairspray” will be offered three or four times on each seven-night cruise itinerary. Royal Caribbean licensed the show for three years aboard Oasis of the Seas with an option for a fourth year.

Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas will remain in the U.K. year-round in 2010 after it returns to Southampton for its second season on April 25. Independence of the Seas will be the company’s first ship to be based year-round in the U.K. The winter 2010 season of will go on sale on June 1.

MSC Cruises is offering several three- and five-night Caribbean cruises aboard the MSC Poesia as the ship sails its inaugural season in North American waters (roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale) during the 2009-2010 season.
